Three young TFCU members shared with us what it means to belong to the credit union. Kaira (8), Emily (5), and Adriana (1) have been credit union members their entire lives. “That’s a long time!” said Kaira. They all belong to the Johnny Appleseed Junior Ecology and Savings Club, which is especially designed for children under 13.

When asked what it means to be a member of the credit union, Kaira enthusiastically responded, “It means that all
the money I find between the sofas, birthday money, and all the money I get from the tooth fairy has to be saved at the credit union for college.” Her piggy bank, which she named Sporty, keeps her money safe until it gets too heavy and Mommy has to take Sporty to visit the credit union.

Emily added that “a credit union is like a bank but not really.” She was absolutely certain about one thing: she
loves receiving a gift from Johnny Appleseed for saving. “It’s awesome!” she said. Adriana didn’t have many thoughts — or words — to share but her sisters will teach her soon enough how to dig between the sofa cushions for loose change and trade in those baby teeth for cash.
